OS X - How to Install a Samsung Wifi Laser Printer on Mac Book Computer
The guide explains you the manual installation method of setting up you Samsung Wifi enabled printer.
It is for experts who have some technical know how.
This know how also extents to other Wifi printers.
NOTE:
A
Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) enabled Access-Point allows you to connect a new device to your protected Wifi network without entering a WPA key.
If your Router or Access-Point has the WPS feature is has a little or menu button labeled WPS
- Factory default Networking - Wi-Fi Protected Setup of the Samsung ML-2165W is Push Button Configuration (PBC) mode.
- ML2165W : Press and hold the WPS button
on the control panel
for more than 2 seconds. It starts Blinking [[image:
WPS-Button-02.gif]], which indicates that it is searching for the Router.
The machine starts waiting for up to two minutes until you press the WPS (PBC) button on the access point (or wireless router).
- Press the WPS (PBC) button on the access point (or wireless router). E.g: My Virgor Wireless Router has also a menu for this purpose.
- Print a Configuration sheet by pressing and holding the WPS button
for about 10 seconds until the
green LED blinks slowly, and release. You find the IP address under TCP/IPV4 Information': e.g. 192.168.1.???
- Go to Setup
and Locate Printers and Scanners.
- Click the Setup icon
n to add a printer
- In the default tab the printer should appear (discovered via OS X Bonjour)
- If it does not appear go to the IP tab and enter the IP address that was printed on the configuration sheet before
- Then the driver will be downloaded from apple

- On OSX Wi-fi list there was SSID sthrough:
- Open a terminal
(Application->Utilities->Terminal)
- Type ifconfig to find your own IP

In this case our {{Important| Macbook IP-address is 169.254.148.23}} and the {{Important| printers address 169.254.14.78 }}.
Services offer by the printer are:

Now connect to the printers Syncthrough Website http://169.254.14.78/ ( use the IP you got in last chapter )

Power consumption:
Laser printer consume a lot of energy while in operation:

; Idle Standby: 30 W
; Sleeping : 0.9 W (ML-216x Series), Less than 1.2 W (ML-216xW Series)
; Less than: 0.45 W (0.1 Wc)
Till some years ago printers where consuming almost as much power when turned of as on operation.
Now printer use only very little energy when in standby. Standby consumption of 1.2W costs about 1.15 USD per year.
